Here are some exciting highlights about joining IEA:

  • No horse ownership required! Riders compete on horses provided by the host barn.
  •  Four ability levels offered: Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, and Open—there’s a place for everyone.
  •  Grade-based teams: Grades 4–8 compete on Middle School Teams Grades 9–12 compete on High School Teams
  • Earn points and qualify for finals! Riders and teams compete for individual and team points, with opportunities to advance to Regional, Zone, and National Finals.
  • Season timeline: The IEA show season runs August 1st through late spring/early summer, ending at the National Finals.
  • Equalized competition: Riders draw a horse at random, use the tack provided, and receive limited schooling—true tests of horsemanship and adaptability.
  • Show opportunities: Each student can compete in up to five horse shows per season to earn qualifying points. (Point system: 1st = 7pts, 2nd = 5pts, 3rd = 4pts, 4th = 3pts, 5th = 2pts, 6th = 1pt.) Please note: If you sign up for a show and cannot attend, there is no way to make up the points.
